The Anointing (Part 5 of 6) - Getting "Smeared"

What is the anointing?  Is. 10:27-(AMP) says, “And it shall be in that day that the burden of [the Assyrian] shall depart from your shoulders, and his yoke from your neck. The yoke shall be destroyed because of fatness [which prevents it from going around your neck”. The definition for the word anoint in the Hebrew means: to rub, to paint, to smear with oil.  God takes His big Holy Spirit hand and begins to rub us in with His very equipment, character, weight, splendor, light, integrity, and more, until we look, smell, walk, and talk just like Him.

I had the privilege of ministering in a church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, many times.  One particular week, we had both morning and evening services.  My thoughts were that we would teach more in the mornings, and have wonderful Holy Spirit meetings in the evenings.  However, God had different plans.  As I was teaching that first Monday morning on the subject of the anointing, I attempted to give them the same definition of the word anoint that you just read.  As soon as I said that it means to rub, they all fell out of their seats, crying and laughing.  I was shocked.  They got rubbed in by God.  The next day I thought that surely I could do some serious teaching and began to read the definition again.  This time I made it a couple of words farther and said that it means to rub, to paint, and guess what?  They got painted by the wonderful hand of Almighty God.  They were still on the floor when I arrived for the evening meeting.  The next day, I joked about being afraid to do a review, but I did anyway.  By the time I got to the part of the definition that says it means to smear with oil, (yes, you guessed it), they got smeared with Holy Ghost oil.  Again, they were on the carpet until the evening service.  I could not do much teaching until Thursday.

Later I put together a series of CD’s on the subject of the anointing and left one of those CD’s from Tulsa in the series.  I called it “Getting Smeared with the Anointing”.  You could plainly hear the people crying and laughing and praising God on that CD.

I ministered in Medellín, Columbia, the drug capitol of the world.  We had a tremendous revival.  At the end, I gave my anointing CD series to the children’s pastors there.  They later told me that it kept them going when discouragement tried to set in.  It is so brutal over there that they had to duck when they came to a red light because people would start shooting to high-jack their cars.  They watched their neighbor across the street be murdered in front of them.  However, when they listened to these c.d.’s, they were reminded of how big and real God’s anointing is.  They sensed His anointing coming into their car and home to help them.

The anointing is our equipment to do whatever He calls us to do.  If we do it without our equipment, the result is religion.  Anointing involves the power of God.  The Bible also calls it the fatness of God in Is. 10:27.  It says it wraps around our necks creating a layer of lubrication that causes the enemy’s bondages to be destroyed from off our lives.

Fatness is that which gives anything its flavor.  That’s why we like fattier cuts of beef, like rib-eyes, verses dry, leaner sirloin.  Anything marbled with fat is tastier.  It’s rich, heavy, and tasty.   How big and rich is God?  I don’t know, but there is no scale big enough to weigh Him.  He is infinite, omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent.  One of the definitions of glory is the heavy of Almighty God.  One of His names is El-Shadai - The God of more than enough.  When you approach God, don’t act like you are coming to a diet line.  Do not ask Him for a piece of broccoli so that you can just make it through the night.  Believe that you are coming to The banana split with whipping cream on top, kind of God.  Believe that you are coming to the chicken fried steak, potatoes, and gravy of God.  Believe for the entire healing, not just for the pain to let up so that you can have one night’s sleep.  Do not believe for a half smile on your face so that you don’t commit suicide.  Believe for “joy unspeakable and full of glory”.  You are coming to the big buffet of God. No wonder the Psalmist said, “Oh taste and see that The Lord is good.”

The anointing is so very real that it can be felt.  It is tangible, and transmittable.  That’s why it could be stored in the cloth of Jesus’ garments.  It is more real than the molecules in the chair that you are sitting in right now.  It is just from another realm, the spiritual realm.  We are used to the carnal, five senses realm.  Learn to be sensitive to His realm.  That realm is where the power, help, our equipment, and weapons are.  It is the manifested presence of God.

Believe that the anointing totally destroys any yoke of bondage that you have been suffering from:  poverty, sickness, lust, temper, jealousy, a troubled marriage, whatever the problem is.  Don’t say that the anointing will just break it.  Anything broken can be put back together again.  The anointing will totally destroy it so that it can never be put back together again.

The anointing is a yoke destroying, burden removing, life-changing, mind transforming, strength imparting, body healing, dead man raising, ever present power that is available to you and I.  It is so that we can be a blessing to others.  We can give away what we have freely received.
