Is What We Believe Based On The Word Of God? (Part 3 of 7)
Living a Holy Life
We are continuing to answer the true and false test of a few weeks ago. We have answered five of them, and will continue with the next five.
6. Once you have accepted Christ as Savior, you can live any way that you want to.
That is another false answer, in spite of what many are trying to tell us these days. Here is what the Bible says about:
1 John 2:15-17 - “ Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.”
1 John 3:3-10 "And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. 4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. 5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. 6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. 7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. 8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
John 3:20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
7. God may heal you, or it may not be His will. You must pray “if it be your will.”
False again, my friend. Over and over again, the Bible tells us that it is the will of God for us to be healed. Jesus paid the price for it with His healing stripes. To say that it is sometimes not His will, you need to have at least one scriptural reference and you cannot find one. The only time that we see anyone asking Jesus about His will, He answered quickly with "I will."
Matthew 8:2-4 (KJV) 2 And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. 3 And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 4 And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
It would have been the perfect opportunity for Him to set the record straight and say, " it is my will this time, but I don't want people to always think it is my will. I may want to teach them a lesson." He did not. He simply said, "I will", knowing that The Holy Spirit was recording this for all of us, for all time.
1 Peter 2:24 (KJV) Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
Matthew 8:17 (KJV). That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.
8. It’s alright to have sex outside of marriage, if you are really committed to the person.
Sex outside of marriage is called fornication in the Bible.
Here are some of the verses about it.
1 Thessalonians 4:3 "For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:"
Romans 1:28-30 (KJV) And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
1 Corinthians 5:1 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.
1 Corinthians 6:13 Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.
1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
1 Corinthians 7:2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
1 Corinthians 10:8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
God does not do that to spoil anyone's fun fun, but to protect us from disease, unwed pregnancy, broken hearts, soul ties, and not saving yourself for the true one that you will marry. He knows what is best for us and wants us to experience it. No one who has ever entered marriage as a virgin, has ever regretted it. That cannot be said about the ones who refused to wait for God's best.
9. God understands if you were born differently, and accepts homosexuality.
No, I dare say, He does not.
We are living in an hour where homosexuality is not only tolerated but propagated and promoted. Children are being encouraged to explore, experiment, and decide for themselves. Tom-boys who enjoy climbing trees or playing sports are told that the are homosexual and when they buy into that lie, they also buy into an enslaving sin. Children are being encouraged to “kiss the same sex to see what it’s like” in our public schools. It has become the “in-thing” on college campuses to experiment with the same sex. It is the new way to be progressive and “cool”. The Bible warns us about the hour we live in.
Homosexuality is not a lifestyle or an inherited gene. It is a lustful passion and it is sin. The Bible must be our final authority, not the age we live in.
Leviticus 18:22 (ESV) “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination”.
1 Corinthians 6:9-11 ESV “Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”
Romans 1:26-28 ESV “For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done”.
Leviticus 20:13 ESV “If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them”.
1 Timothy 1:10 ESV “The sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine,”
1 Corinthians 7:2 ESV “But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.”
1 Timothy 1:10-11 ESV “The sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine, in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted.”
Mark 10:6-9 ESV “But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”
Jude 1:7 ESV “Just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.”
Romans 1:27 ESV “And the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.”
10. We all have to sin a little every day.
The Bible clearly tells us that we can live above sin by the power of The Holy Spirit and His grace. That is what true grace is. It is overcoming power and ability to do what we cannot do on our own. We access it by faith.
1 John 1:6-7 -“ If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
1 John 2:1-6 - “2 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. 3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.”
1 John 3:3-10 “ And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. 10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.”
1 John 5:2-4 - “By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. 4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
1 John 5:18 - “We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not”.
Ephesians 4:22 “That you put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;”
Colossians 3:5 “Mortify therefore your members which are on the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:”
Hebrews 12:1 “Why seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which does so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.
